Asha Kiran
Asha Kiran, run by the Maharashtra State Women’s Council, is a day-care and learning centre for street children, located adjacent to Asha Sadan in Umerkhadi Jail, Mumbai. It offers a safe, nurturing environment for nearly 100 children each day-many from vulnerable backgrounds who would otherwise be on the streets, exposed to neglect and exploitation.
The centre provides basic education, vocational training, nutritious meals, health and hygiene awareness, and emotional support. Children begin their day with a bath, prayer, snack, and exercise, followed by group discussions, informal classes, lunch, outdoor play, and later, formal education. Those ready for school are enrolled and given extra coaching.
