The Adoption Group
“Adoption” means the process through which the adopted child is permanently separated from his biological parents and becomes the legitimate child of his adoptive parents with all the rights, privileges and responsibilities that are attached to the relationship. Adoption of orphan, abandoned and surrendered children in India is governed by a set of guidelines notified by Government of India.

The Adoption Group’s aim, like all other institutions within the MSWC is to work tirelessly against the permanent institutionalisation of young people. To that end, the Adoption Group screens and selects potential parents from accredited agencies and tries to ensure that children who are brought to Asha Sadan find loving homes as soon as is possible.

The Adoption Group of the MSWC works in line with CARA (Central Adoption Resource Authority) guidelines towards its goal of facilitating adoption and ensuring that a maximum number of children find secure homes in India and abroad.  Special children are also placed in adoptive homes, usually overseas, but the number of adoption requests continues to rise in India, a welcome trend.

The Adoption Group also holds an Annual Adoption Meet each year – a festival that is attended by children who have been adopted and their parents. A fiesta with music and dance, the Meet celebrates adopted children’s return to their first home and is an event that Asha Sadan and the children look forward to.

Over 1706 children have been placed by the Adoption Group till date over the last three decades
